Mita Maske Ti Ki – My Sister Friend’s House offers an open door to a light filled haven, more than just a house; it is a home. This safe zone offers transitional housing for women of all ages, races, and backgrounds.
Mita Maske Ti Ki reports that 85% of the women finding shelter in Sioux Falls, SD are Native American. Since 2000 My Sister Friend’s House has offered a culturally sensitive option for those women. Embracing a traditional Native belief that women and children are sacred, as well as offering a relaxed atmosphere sets My Sister Friend’s House apart.
A grassroots effort to empower women with education, job skills, health care, and a safe place to achieve their goals of freedom is a daily challenge. The day to day financial needs of My Sister Friend’s House are met by generous grants of Wiconi Wawokiya Inc. Mita Maske Ti Ki is a 501c3 non profit, and they appreciate donations from the public.
With goals of expanding, the shelter staff hope to find a more spacious location. Not only do they hope for more beds, but also have goals of offering on site daycare for women seeking and starting new jobs, and crisis care for women with urgent needs.
Mita Maske Ti Ki thanks you for your support as they support women in need in Sioux Falls, and other communities through out South Dakota.
